Improper Disposal of Charcoal Sparks Garage Fire at Condo

No injuries reported.

Fire crews responded to a garage fire Sunday night, sparked by the improper disposal of charcoal, fire officials said.

Smoke was spotted coming from one bay of a 12-bay strip garage at Knightsbridge Arms Condominium complex, 5 New Haven Drive, Nashua, at about 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 2.

Ladder one forced entry into the bay, and Engine 5 located a small rubbish fire inside the garage and extinguished. Access to the fire was delayed because of the garage door being locked, but there were no injuries reported and damage was contained to the bay.

Fire officials said an occupant of the complex had emptied the contents of a charcoal grill into a rubbish bag and left it inside the garage, and cited improper disposal of charcoal and ash as the cause of the fire.
