Intense Fire Gives Firefighters Realistic Training Scenarios
Nashua fire hosted training for Pepperell, Massachusetts, fire department. Crews got hands-on experience with intense heat, smoke, rescues.
NASHUA, NH — When firefighters pull up to a burning building they immediately need to rescue people, and fight the fire. A matter of seconds can make the difference between life and death.
Nashua Fire Regional Live Fire Training Simulator allows firefighters practice and learn techniques which will prepare them for a real fire.
Nashua Fire Rescue hosted Pepperell fire department Tuesday for an annual hands on training for the members of their department.

The training structure fueled by burning wood or propane reaches temperatures over 1,000 degrees which are similar to fires they will face on the job.
The crews practiced running hose lines to the fire, making entry, and extinguishing the fire. During the process they experience the heat, intensity, and the lack of visibility.

While crews worked on extinguishing the fire other crews worked on ground ladder skills, and using the ladder truck. Firefighters reached a simulated roof area where using saws cut ventilation holes in plywood.
Pepperell EMS crews set up at the training site taking baseline vitals, and continued to track the firefighters as they made entry into the burn compartments.
Nashua Training Officers were on-site helping to coordinate the safe use of the facility, while the Pepperell Command Staff directed the Pepperell firefighters.
