Sidewalk Update: Unexpected Electrical Lines

Should be pouring concrete next week, weather permitting.

Here's the second installment of weekly updates on the Main Street Sidewalk Project, as promised, by the Mayor's office. You can find an overview and history of the project at gonashua.com. We'll bring you the updates as they are posted. We'll also keep a link to the sidewalk project updates pinned at the top of our news home page.

During the week of April 22, we successfully installed light pole foundations, set the frames and grates on the new catch basins, ran conduit from the mid‐block crosswalk to the mast arm on Water Street, set a raised planter in front of Espresso Pizza and installed a tree well in front of Cooking Matters.

While running the conduit, we found unexpected electrical lines encased in concrete and asbestos pipe.  Some of the conduit needed to be removed and replaced because it was obstructing the installation of the light pole foundation.

An electrical contractor reconnected the electrical line which powers street lights. Due to the unexpected additional work, we will begin to set forms and pour concrete for the sidewalks next week. Once again, this is a tentative schedule and subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

We will do our best to minimize inconveniences. Please do not hesitate to contact Superintendent of Streets, Roy Sorenson or Operations Manager, Andy Patrician at 603‐589‐3140 with any question or concerns.
