Martha's Exchange Holds Fundraiser for Marathon Bomb Victims

Waitstaff will donate tips and owners will match, to benefit longtime customers Martha and Al Galvis.

Thanks to reader Ed Stebbins for pointing out this wonderful event.

Owners and employees of Martha's Exchange Restaurant & Brewery have organized a fundraiser this Thursday May 16 to benefit husband and wife Al and Martha Galvis of Nashua, both injured in the Boston Marathon bombing. The fundraiser was organized along with the Galvis children on behalf of their parents, who have a long road of recovery ahead.

According to a fundraising page at GiveForward.com, so far $51,438 has been raised, money which will go toward the mounting expenses – medical, emotional practical. As explained on the GiveForward page by daughter, Erika Carolina Galvis:

"The multiple surgeries that my parents have and will continue to undergo, plus the long road to rehabilitation and recovery, means mounting out-of-pocket medical and associated expenses. My father will not be able to return to his profession in health care account management due to his mental incapability. Additionally, since my mother is unable to walk yet, my father will need to stay home to care for her. My mother will not be able to return to her beloved job as a preschool assistant teacher since the job is very much hands-on with children."
