Owner Of Abandoned Dog Located, Charged with Animal Cruelty
Sammie the great dane is on the mend. Her previous owner faces charges.
A Hudson woman has been charged with animal cruelty in the case of a sick dog she initially said she found abandoned at her dog groomer business, tethered to the door.
In fact, Michelle Hogan, 44, of 85 Barbara Lane, Hudson, the shop owner, was also the dog owner, and turned herself in at Hudson Police headquarters after she was identified by police as the owner if a 2-year-old Great Dane named Sammie, taken in by Hudson Animal Control Officer Jana McMillan on Aug. 28 at Dunk'n Dogs on Lowell Road.
McMillan requested assistance in locating the owner of the dog, which was in need of medical attention. With the help of many callers, Hogan was identified as the owner of the dog and subsequently charged with Cruelty to Animals, Rabies Vaccination Required, and Dog License Required.
McMillan said she is the person who initially reported finding the abandoned dog.
Hogan was released on $2,000 bail with a court date to appear at 9th Circuit Nashua District Court on September 19, 2013.
Sammie has been placed in a new permanent home and is receiving the medical care she needed, police said.
A fund has been created by America’s Pets, 142 Lowell Road, Hudson, NH, a pet supply store located in Nottingham Plaza, to help with Sammie’s medical expenses. Donations are being accepted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily by calling America’s Pets at (603) 881-9247. Donations collected will be paid directly to the treating veterinarian.
