Shaheen Touts Legislation During Nashua Tour

On Sept. 13 U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, promoted the benefits of her bipartisan energy efficiency legislation at the Rosewood at Gagnon Farms Housing Development in Nashua, a development that incorporated energy efficient products and production processes throughout its construction.  

Shaheen says her legislation would promote similar efforts on the national level and also has the potential to create 136,000 jobs by 2025. The bipartisan Energy Savings and Industrial Competiveness Act was introduced with Sen. Rob Portman, R-OH, and is currently being debated on the Senate floor; the Senate is expected to resume consideration of the bill on Monday.

“The bipartisan momentum behind my energy efficiency legislation is encouraging and I’m hoping we can pass our bill soon,” Shaheen said. “We have a chance to promote the kind of energy efficiency investments I saw today at the Gagnon Farms Housing Development across the country and by doing so, we can create jobs, save consumers and taxpayers money, and lower pollution. Efficiency is the cheapest and fastest way to address our country’s energy needs and passing our bill will be good for our economy and our environment.”

Rosewood at the Gagnon Farms Housing Development has recently adopted some of the energy efficiency technologies the Shaheen-Portman bill would help promote nationally. The bipartisan legislation provides a framework to make the country’s energy consumption more efficient and will simultaneously create jobs and save taxpayers money. The bill passed through the Senate Energy Committee on a strong bipartisan vote of 19-3 and has received resounding support from a broad coalition of business, labor and environmental leaders.
