Sidewalk Project Update: Work at 100 Main Street the Focus

Work continues on the Main Street sidewalk improvement project.

Main Street Sidewalk Project Update: August 30, 2013

During the week of August 26, the city installed three light pole foundations, ran conduit, poured one pad and sealed utility lines in concrete on the East side of Block 2. As expected, the vault at 100 Main Street consumed most of the week. Crews chiseled damaged concrete along the front of the building, tack welded steel on two structural steel beams to prevent water intrusion, replaced mortar to bring the vault up to grade and sealed the top and sides of the vault. The sealant must cure for 24 hours before anything can be placed on top of it.

The brick work and relocation of the fire hydrant is in process on the East side of Block 2.

Preparation for the installation of the light poles on the West side of Block 2 was begun.

This week:

Concrete sidewalks will be poured at 100 Main Street which will be a challenge because of the height of the vault. A section of sidewalk in front of 100 Main Street and next to the library walk will be replaced with brick as opposed to concrete due to inadequate depth requirements to accommodatea concrete pour. Crews will prepare sidewalks from the Library Walk to Triangle Credit Union. The plan is to pour four pads in total and continue the brick work.

Schedule is tentative and subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.  Contact Public Works Director Lisa Fauteux or Andy Patrician, Operations Manager on site, at 589-3140 with any concerns.
