Street Beat: 'Walk Sign is On'
For those of you who don't hoof it around town, we have new talking crosswalk signs.
They have a good beat and they're easy to dance to – especially if you're plugged in to your iPod while waiting to cross the street. We're talking about the new talking crosswalk signs on Main Street.
This quick video gives you a look at how they work - an electronic beat counts down to let you know when to walk and the sign actually tells you when the "walk" sign is on – maybe to nudge those who are busy texting while waiting to cross.
Anyway, it's all part of the downtown renovations.

Note: We asked the Mayor when the downtown street signs will return (currently you can't tell Factory Street from East Pearl unless you're a native). She said they will be back "soon," along with a new sign that was ordered for Kinsley Street after someone observed there was not a Kinsley Street sign.
Now you know.
