Who Was Chuck Druding? A True Titan
Nashua High School North students organized a dignified ceremony marking the history of Chuck Druding Drive, and ushering in Titan Way.
A ceremony was held Sept. 17 to honor the memory of Chuck Druding, whose legacy is his passion for life, something which carried over to his work for the City of Nashua.
Druding served as "clerk of the works," and was instrumental in the planning process for Nashua North High School. He died of pancreatic cancer at age 60, before the project was completed.
in Students at the high school wanted to rename the road Titan Way in honor of the 10th graduating class and the school's 12th year, but did not want to diminish Druding's legacy.
At first, Druding's widow Judith was against the change.
"My first reaction? I said no, I think, because it came out of the blue. But after talking it over with my sons, I realized the kids today don't know who Chuck was. Titans mean more to them, and it's their school. And the monument will be a nice way to hinor him. Now everyone will know who he was," she said.
Please take a moment to watch the accompanying video. It's long, by video standards, but worth the four minutes. Words were written by Druding's son, Rick, who couldn't get through it, and delivered by North Principal Marianne Busteed who pinch hit for him, reading what is a heartfelt and fitting tribute to his dad, and a definitive answer to the question: Who was Chuck Druding?
Closing of Rick Druding's remarks:
"Today Chuck Druding Drive will become Titan Way. A Titan has many meanings: A Greek god, a satellite, a ballistic missile, a person or thing of enormous size strength, power, influence. As you drive to your school, remember what a Titan is, an all seeing eye that is larger than life with unforseen powers that influence us all. May you find yourself, your strength, your wisdom and your compassion whlie attending Nashua High School. May this roadway always serve as a connection to education and to the community. Thank you"
