Window Box Ashtray Sparks House Fire

Quick response by Nashua Fire reduced damage to a Laconia Avenue home.

Nashua Fire Engine 5 was dispatched to a home at 4 Laconia Avenue just before 2 a.m for a report of smoke showing from a 2-story wood frame home.

Upon arrival crews stretched a hose line and extinguished a small fire on the front wall of the home, which had originated in a flower box under a front window and was extending up the front wall.

The cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of smoking materials, fire officials said. An occupant of the home said that the flower box was used as a place to dispose of cigarettes, and that she had put a cigarette in the box earlier in the evening, and returned home to find the fire.
