4 Killed In Maine Crash

Berwick police said four people were killed after a driver tried to pass a vehicle, lost control and slammed head-on into another vehicle.

BERWICK, ME — Four people were killed after a crash Saturday afternoon in Berwick, Maine, after police said a driver tried to pass a vehicle, lost control and slammed head-on into another vehicle traveling the opposite direction. Three people died at the scene and another died at a local hospital. Four others were injured. The crash happened on Route 4 at about 1:30 p.m.

The deceased were identified as a 31-year-old Buxton, Maine, man, a 29-year-old man, a 7-year-old boy and a 73-year-old woman.

Police said the 31-year-old Buxton man was driving a Honda Civic with the 29-year-old and 7-year-old when he attempted an "improper" pass and collided with a Ford Explorer driven by a 46-year-old Woburn, Massachusetts, woman.

A 22-year-old woman in the Honda survived, as did the Woburn woman, a 49-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl in the Ford. They were all hospitalized.

Police said the names of the victims were withheld pending notification of family.
