Boat Capsizes, Two People Rescued
Lobster boat rescues two people after boat overturns near the Route 1B causeway in New Castle.

UPDATED, 9:39 p.m.: Portsmouth Fire Captain Mike Hogan said it was a New Castle Fire Department call and Portsmouth firefighters were called to assist, but the two men were picked up by some lobstermen on a lobster boat that happened to be in the same area where their boat overturned.
“We were just getting our boat underway,” Hogan said.
He said the lobster boat crew transported the two men to the University of New Hampshire Jackson Marine Lab pier near the U.S. Coast Guard Station where paramedics were waiting to administer treatment.

Hogan said the two men were cold and wet, but refused additional treatment and went home.
He said it is unclear how they ended up in the water. “I don’t know how their boat overturned,” he said.

“They were very lucky, no question about it,” said Hogan. He said that given the fact that they went into the water at night, they were fortunate there was a lobster boat in the area that was able to assist them very quickly.

Portsmouth firefighters responded with the Portsmouth Fire Boat along with the U.S. Coast Guard to an area near the Route 1B causeway in New Castle around 9 p.m., according to Emergency Communications.
Two people were in the water before they were rescued by some lobstermen aboard a lobster boat and then transported to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in New Castle, according to Emergency Communications.
