Crash Into Toll Booth Injures Maine Woman; Causes Traffic Back-up

The Acton, Maine driver of a car that crashed into the toll plaza structure was injured and transported to the hospital

ROCHESTER, NH -On Sunday October 18, 2020 at approximately 4:10 p.m. Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop-A responded to Route 16 at the Rochester Toll Plaza in the town of Rochester for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

NH State Police say the initial on-scene investigation revealed that a 2018 Subaru Outback being driven by Joann McCollum-Hubbard, 73 of Acton, Maine was traveling northbound on Route 16 approaching the Rochester toll plaza when she lost control of the vehicle.

The Subaru Outback impacted the concrete abutment in lane 2 at the toll plaza which sent the Outback airborne crashing into the toll booth which was unoccupied at the time. The Outback sustained heavy damage and came to final rest north of the toll plaza. The woman sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Frisbee Memorial Hospital for evaluation. At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Rochester toll plaza remained open to only 1 travel lane northbound for approximately 6 hours while personnel from NHDOT Bureau of Turnpikes replaced the toll booth and equipment.

Troopers from New Hampshire State Police Troop-A were assisted at the scene by Rochester Fire and EMS and the NH Department of Transportation.
