Cinema and Music Brighten City's Winter Weekend

"How I Learned to Drive" at the Players Ring; Tiger Belly, Surf Rock at Press Room; "The Sessions" film at Music Hall.

As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Friday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.

1. See "The Sessions": The Music Hall will continue to provide some great cinema this weekend with the film, "The Sessions." The movie tells the true story of a journalist and poet Mark O'Brien, who at age 38, has an iron lung, but is determined to lose his virginity. The move is playing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.

2. Check out "How I Learned to Drive": The Players Ring is kicking off its 2013 season with the play, "How I Learned to Drive" by Paul Vogel. According to the theater's web site, the play tells the bizarre love story between Li’l Bit and her Uncle Peck. Li’l Bit, played by rising star Jess Miller, presents a jarring look into the rear-view as she re-lives her childhood and adolescent experiences with Peck, played by Seacoast favorite Chris Savage.
