City will be Filled with Music This Weekend
Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival celebrates the sea; The Methans rock the Press Room; and Music Hall gets revved up for ski season.
As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Friday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.
1. Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival: The 13th annual Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival will feature Seacoast area musicians performing rounds and sea shanties in downtown Portsmouth all weekend long. The performances are a great way to connect with Portsmouth's proud seafaring past.
2. See "The Dream Factory": The Music Hall will be showing a film presented by Sugarloaf Mountain and Sunday River titled "The Dream Factory," a ski and snowboard adventure film by Teton Gravity Research. The $19 admission includes a free lift ticket redeemable at Sugarloaf Mountain or Sunday River.

3. Upside of Being Down: The Players Ring's production of the musical "The Upside of Being Down" by Miles Burns continues this weekend with shows at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 per person.
4. See The Methans: The Methans will rock the Press Room on Saturday at 9 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge.

5. Chess anyone?: The Portsmouth Public Library offers a free drop-in chess games on the last Saturday of each month, which means those who want to get a good game going with a friend, family member or any member of the community can come to the library on Saturday and play from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m.
