Coast Guard Finalizes Bridge Lift Span Schedule
Archer Western Contractors officials have not announced when the new Memorial Bridge will be open to motor vehicle traffic in July.
The Coast Guard announced a new schedule on Monday for the Memorial Bridge lift span for marine traffic, but the bridge contractor has yet not announced when the new span will be open to motor vehicle traffic in July.
According to the Coast Guard, the agreement will go into effect from June 26 through July 31 and will allow maritime vessels to travel under the bridge on the following dates and times:
- A full bridge opening shall be provided for commercial deep draft vessels at all times, on signal, after a 24-hour advance notice is given by calling the bridge via VHF FM Ch. 13.
- Monday through Friday the draw shall open for the passage of vessel traffic at 6:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. the draw shall open on signal once an hour, on the half hour, for the passage of vessel traffic.
- Vessels that can pass under the bridge without a bridge opening may do so at all times.
According to Carol Morris, a spokesperson for Archer Western Contractors, "This schedule will be a great asset in giving the workers the time they need to complete the remaining work. They would also like to thank mariners over the next weeks for their patience in accommodating this revised schedule."
