Contractor: Memorial Bridge Not Open
Archer Western crews report that some people have been biking and walking across the bridge.

When the Memorial Bridge lift span was successfully floated in this week, it reconnected Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth for the first time in two years, but that doesn't mean the bridge is open to the public.
On Thursday, Carol Morris, a spokesperson for Archer Western Contractors, said some bicyclists and pedestrians are starting to use the new span already even though it is not scheduled to open until July.
Steve Delgrosso, the Archer Western Contractors project manager, reminded all members of the public that the bridge remains an active construction site and is absolutely not open to any members of the public for crossing.

"Crews are working at full tilt, heavy machinery is still in use and the bridge is not a safe place for the public," he said in a prepared statement. He added, "Please respect all gates and boundaries."
