Portsmouth Chef Comes Up Short

Moxy Chef and Owner Matt Louis' bid to win Food & Wine Magazine 2013 Best New England Chef poll is over.

Matt Louis, chef and owner of the Moxy restaurant, had hoped to come out on top of Food & Wine Magazine's 2013 Best New Chef in New England poll this week, but it didn't happen.

According to Food & Wine's website, Louis finished in fifth place out a field of 10 New England chefs. So who took the top honor? Andrew Taylor and Mike Wiley, two chefs who work at Eventide Oyster in Portland, Maine, finished in first place.

Brenda McGill, chef at Hitchcock-Bainbridge Island in Washington State, won the overall 2013 People's Choice Best New Chef award. The magazine did not list the actual poll results on its website.

Louis made a strong showing and he may still get some recognition in the annual Spotlight Magazine awards later this spring.

Under Louis' bio, the magazine's editors say he is amazing because "he makes incredible Spanish-style tapas using seasonal New England ingredients." Moxy opened in May 2012.
