PORTSMOUTH, NH — Joining efforts to provide affordable housing to New Hampshire's skilled workers, Eversource recently presented a grant to the Workforce Housing Coalition of Greater Seacoast. The grant will go toward the coalition's spring projects, including those planned for Rockingham and Hillsborough counties. According to Eversource, affordable housing for skilled workers helps benefit future economic development.
"New Hampshire needs a greater supply of housing that is affordable to members of the workforce so that our businesses can continue to grow," said Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast Executive Director Sarah Wrightsman. "We are so grateful to have Eversource join our coalition."
The Workforce Housing Coalition aims to make housing more affordable to workers of all stages of life, by advocating policies and providing various programs. Eversource's grant will help the coalition's spring programming, which includes providing volunteers to examine zoning laws and find any obstacles to creating workforce housing in the region's communities. The coalition also partners with Regional Economic Development Center of Southern New Hampshire in piloting services in western parts of Rockingham County and several communities in Hillsborough County.
"Addressing the issue of housing affordability is critical to attracting and retaining the highly skilled workers who will help us to build the smart, clean grid of the future here in the Granite State," said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Maria Letourneau in a statement. "We are grateful for the opportunity to support the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast in serving the neighborhoods where we work and live."
