Exeter Psychologist Trial Pushed Back to Fall

Dr. Alexander Marino, who is charged with running an extensive prostitution ring out of his city apartment, will now go to trial on Sept. 15.

An Exeter psychologist charged with operating an extensive prostitution operation out of his Portsmouth apartment has had his trial pushed back to this fall.

According to court documents, the trial of Dr. Alexander Marino, 38, of Portsmouth that was originally scheduled to take place on Jan. 15 was initially rescheduled until Jan. 29 and then rescheduled again to March 12 at 8:30 a.m. The delay, according to court documents, was "due to judge availability." Marino was in Portsmouth Circuit Court on Tuesday for a pre-trial conference. His new trial date is Sept. 15.

on Aug. 8 on charges he allowed his residence to be used for the prostitution operation and for possession of controlled narcotic drugs. after he pleaded not guilty to the prostitution charges at his arraignment in October.

According to Portsmouth Police, Marino used his apartment for prostitution, advertising on backpage.com and having male clients go to the apartment complex before entering the apartment to receive services. Police first learned about the prostitution activity in October 2011 and conducted surveillance in August before they arrested Marino, Brooke Parent, 21, of Manchester and Jim Parra, 22, of Kittery, Maine.

Parent was subsequently arrested twice for prostitution in Manchester after she solicited two undercover Manchester Police detectives on the same day.
