Florida Fugitive From Justice Arrested in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A fugitive from justice who was wanted in Florida on theft and drug-related charges was arrested by Portsmouth police on Wednesday. Christian Hamm, 30, of Fort Myers, Florida, was arrested after being located in a Portsmouth hotel. He had a felony warrant for a grand theft charge, a violation of probation charge relating to drug possession, and an electronic bench warrant for failing to appear in court for a vehicle offense, Portsmouth police say.

Lee County Sheriff's Office in Florida had contacted Portsmouth police on Wednesday, notifying them that Hamm might be staying at Portsmouth hotel, possibly under a different name, according to Portsmouth police. The Portsmouth police then went to the hotel and confirmed with management that Hamm was there. He was arrested without incident, Portsmouth police say.

Hamm was held at Rockingham County jail with no bail as he awaited arraignment scheduled for Thursday morning via video conference at Portsmouth District Court. Anyone with information regarding his arrest is asked to call the Portsmouth Police Department at 603-436-2145.
