'Ghost Ship' Aground in Hampton Harbor, Questions Remain
One rumor floated about "Guest List" run aground: That it was used in a Denzel Washington movie.
The story of a "ghost ship" run aground in Hampton Harbor is going national. Now if only it would go elsewhere – anywhere else – Alicia Preston wishes aloud in an interview.
The hull of the ship, "Guest List," is sunk into the marsh not far from Preston's house.
It's been there since February, and in Hampton-Seabrook harbor since summer. At some point a mooring broke. Preston says they were worried that, with the right high tide, it would crash higher ashore. It is a large enough vessel that it is "actually affecting the tide," yet it is a shell of a boat, with no engine, no rudder.
While it may be an eyesore, Preston adds, "Someone's going to get hurt."
Confounding things, there is the question of who owns "Guest List."
Rumors have floated as well. There was one story that the ship was used as a porn shoot, and another that it was meant to be blown up off Salisbury, Mass., in a movie that Denzel Washington was shooting last summer, according to Preston. Both rumors were debunked, she says. Preston went so far as to Tweet at Denzel Washington, but never heard back.
The story has since been covered by Seacoastonline, MyFOXBoston, the New York Daily News, among other media outlets. Preston, in an interview, says she hopes all the media attention will lead to "Guest List" leaving her local harbor.
"The truth is nobody is taking responsibility," she says. "We've contacted everybody. We've received no answers."
