Got Drugs? Get Rid of Them Today

Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day and the Portsmouth Police Department wants residents to dispose of their old prescription drugs at the police station.

For Portsmouth area residents who have a lot of old, unwanted prescription drugs lying around in their medicine cabinets, today is the day they should get rid of them.

According to the Portsmouth Police Department Facebook page, Saturday, April 27 is National Take Back Drug Day. City residents can bring their old prescription drugs to the police station between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and dispose of them in the lobby by placing them in a special bin.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsors this program every every year and several Seacoast area police departments will also be hold drug take back days on Saturday.

According to the federal agency's website, the five previous Take-Back events, have collected more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications were removed from circulation.
