Great Bay Coalition: EPA Regs May Cost Cities and Towns $1.5B
Representatives from Portsmouth, Exeter, Dover, Newmarket and Rochester say much is at stake if mandatory sewer upgrades stand.

Members of five Portsmouth area cities and towns that make up the Great Bay Coalition recently said it could cost 62 communities $1.5 billion if mandated federal Environmental Protection Agency sewer and wastewater upgrades are not changed.
The Union Leader reported that more than 50 Seacoast area residents gathered in Rochester for a meeting to get the latest information on where the coalition legal battle against the federal government agency stands. John Hall, principal at Hall & Associates, an environmental law firm which has represented the coalition on Great Bay Estuary nutrient issues for the past two years, told them there is no scientific basis that warrants the mandated upgrades to the affected communities sewer treatment plants.
