Holiday Music, the Nutcracker and Living Nativity this Weekend
City to offer free downtown parking from Friday, Dec. 14 to Jan. 2.; Ed Gerhard to perform 30th annual Christmas Guitar concert at South Church.
As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Friday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.
1. Living Nativity: The Middle Street Baptist Church will present its Living Nativity, "The Majesty of the Christmas Manger," on Saturday. Shows are free and will be performed at 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
2. Nutcracker at Music Hall: "An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker" will be at the Music Hall this weekend with shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

3. Vintage Christmas: This weekend, Portsmouth's Vintage Christmas begins in earnest with several events including Strawbery Banke's Candlelight Stroll, seasonal Christmas trolleys downtown, Victorian-era Carolers and other events.
4. Free downtown parking: Beginning on Dec. 14, the city will offer free downtown parking at all metered spaces for the holiday season until Jan. 2. City residents and visitors can still get a ticket if they leave their vehicle in a metered space beyond the regularly allotted time period.

5. Ed Gerhard holiday concert: Ed Gerhard will perform his 30th annual Christmas Guitar holiday concert at the Unitarian Universalist Church (the South Church) on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $28 at the door.
