How Much Snow Will Portsmouth Get?

City could see 3- to 6 inches of snow before Tuesday storm turns to sleet and rain.

Spring may be just two days away, but someone must have forgotten to tell Old Man Winter. The Portsmouth area could see 3- to 6 inches of snow from a winter storm that will arrive early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine issued a winter storm watch on Sunday evening that will extend from Monday night through Tuesday night. NWS forecasters are predicting that Monday will represent the calm before the storm with sunny skies giving way to increasing clouds and a high temperature near 34 degrees. Things will start to change in a hurry sometime around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Heavy snow will develop along the coast and yield anywhere from 3- to 6 inches before it changes over to rain and sleet during the day with a high temperature near 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. On Tuesday night, the Portsmouth area will see mostly rain and sleet with a low temperature of 28 degrees. There is also a chance for more snow on Wednesday.
