It's Strawberry Festival Time Again!

In South Berwick, Maine, the last Saturday in June has been reserved for a very special, fun-filled family event and fortunately for us Portsmouth area denizens, that day is tomorrow.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this small village located just 10 miles from Portsmouth will be filled with thousands of people who will enjoy homemade strawberry shortcake and live music during the 38th annual Strawberry Festival.

Thanks to a dedicated corps of festival volunteers who spent the better part of Friday at a hucking party at the community center, there will be hundreds of pounds of fresh strawberries, homemade whipped cream and biscuits served up under the big tent in front of the Central School.

There will also be rows and rows of Seacoast are artisans who will sell every manner of craft treasures. In back of the school, there will be a full day of live music and plenty of things for kids to do like a rock climbing wall, bouncy houses and pony rides all for a very minimal cost. There is also lots of great food for sale in back of the school, including plenty of barbecued chicken.

For Portsmouth area residents who want to go to the festival, traffic is not an issue thanks to the festival committee's strategic use of motorized trolleys that provide free transportation from key points like the Great Works School which is located on Route 236 west just outside of town.

If you and your family have never been to this town's strawberry festival and you are wracking your brain for something to do, definitely consider this event. Rain or shine, it is also a great time.

Have you and your family taken any fun day trips lately in the Seacoast area? If so, let us know. You can never have enough fun places to go.
