Kittery, Maine Shoplifters Nabbed
Portsmouth Police supplied the following arrest information.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Sunday, Dec. 23 to Monday, Dec. 24.
Sunday:
- At 10:52 a.m., police reported shoplifting on Woodbury Avenue and arrested a Kittery, Maine man. Joseph Bates, 38, of 39 Wyman Ave., in Kittery, Maine was charged with attempt to commit theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
- At 3:42 p.m., police reported a theft on Banfield Road after a plow was stolen from a plow truck.
- At 3:43 p.m., police arrested a Portsmouth man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice on Weald Road. Howard Keith Linton, 49, of 21 Weald Road in Portsmouth was wanted for simple assault.
- At 4:09 p.m., police reported a theft on Islington Street after the caller said she left he wallet on a counter and then looked to see it was gone.

- At 3:50 p.m., police arrested two Kittery, Maine residents for shoplifting at the Wal-Mart store on Lafayette Road. According to police, two suspects tried to steal merchandise by placing it inside a plastic tote. Stephanie Appleby, 21, and Nicholas Teague, 19, both of 127 State Road in Kittery, Maine were each charged with wilful concealment.
