Memorial Bridge Lighting Plan in Jeopardy

Union Leader reports that Kittery Town Council votes against entering into mutual maintenance agreement with City of Portsmouth.

A capital campaign to illuminate the new Memorial Bridge with LED lighting may not go forward after the Kittery Town Council recently voted to not enter into a mutual maintenance agreement with the City of Portsmouth, according to the Union Leader.

The Union Leader also reported that the Memorial Bridge Illumination Subcommittee has managed to raise $125,000 in pledges toward the $200,000 LED lighting project and that the Portsmouth City Council agreed to loan the group an additional $36,000. Portsmouth City Manager John Bohenko told the Union Leader that he will ask the council to approve a maintenance agreement on April 15 so the money raised by the illumination subcommittee can go into the trust fund for the project while continuing to work with Kittery officials to see if they will agree to do the mutual maintenance agreement.
