The Music Hall Welcomes Former NPR Host Diane Rehm
On Tuesday, May 2, Diane Rehm will take the stage to discuss her bestselling memoir 'On My Own' in Portsmouth.
From The Music Hall: On Tuesday, May 2, Diane Rehm will take the stage to discuss her bestselling memoir, On My Own. In this eloquent, deeply personal, and moving book, the beloved NPR radio host speaks about the death of her husband, the struggle to reconstruct her life, and her new mission advocating for increased conversation about end-of-life care and the right to die on one’s own terms.
The 7pm event includes a brief author presentation followed by an onstage interview with Virginia Prescott, host of New Hampshire Public Radio’s “Word of Mouth.” It will be held at The Music Hall’s Historic Theater at 28 Chestnut Street, in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Each ticket purchased will include a discounted, autographed paperback edition of Diane Rehm’s bestseller On My Own, her fourth autobiographical book.
“In this intimate and thought-provoking memoir about the last years of her husband’s life, Diane Rehm bravely and honestly looks at today’s right-to-die laws, and she questions them,” said Patricia Lynch, Executive Producer of Writers on a New England Stage. “Her work encourages all of us to examine not just the lives of those we love, but also our own lives. We are looking forward to the insights of this beloved radio host, author, and advocate.”

About the Book
Diane Rehm’s husband, John, was 74 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Nine years later, he passed away, having made the difficult choice to end his extended illness by refusing to eat, drink, or accept medication. In On My Own, Diane advocates for the “right to die” movement that is all too slowly gaining ground in our country, as well as giving readers a poignant look at the immediate aftermath of losing a spouse. As she copes with the inevitable practical issues and, more importantly, with the profoundly emotional ones, she lends her voice to those who are also dealing with recent bereavement and struggling to create a new reality while still honoring the past.
