Police: Cast Iron Planter Thieves on the Prowl

Portsmouth Police provided the following arrest information.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Monday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 28.

Monday:

  • At 8:28 a.m., police reported a simple assault on Winsor Road after a mother said her 15-year-old daughter was jumped by five girls and two guys on Sunday night.
  • At 9:31 a.m., police reported an animal call on Islington Street after the caller said a deer was seen running around and jumping fences. New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation officers were called to the scene, but police could not locate the animal.
  • At 1:56 p.m., police reported criminal mischief on Osprey Drive after the caller said her car was keyed.

  • At 7:08 a.m., police reported some thefts from motor vehicles where a Pearl Street resident said a Nikon camera and a briefcase and laptop were stolen and a Rock Street resident said his wallet and credit cards were stolen.
  • At 7:21 a.m., police reported criminal mischief on Summer Street to a statue at a church and some graffiti on the St. Patrick School building.
  • At 8:16 a.m., police reported some criminal mischief to a boat trailer on Langdon Street.
  • At 8:41 a.m., police reported a theft of an iPod from a vehicle on Hillcrest Drive.
  • At 10:43 a.m., police reported a stolen mountain bike on Bow Street.
  • At 11:53 a.m., police took a report of a rape-forcible sex assault from the state Division of Children Youth and Families that occurred in 2011.
  • At 12:05 p.m., police arrested a 17-year-old juvenile for possession of tobacco on Andrew Jarvis Drive.
  • At 1:23 p.m., police arrested a Merrimack man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice after he turned himself in at the police department. Michael Joseph, 25, of 38 Cota Road was wanted for aggravated driving while intoxicated.
  • At 1:57 p.m. and at 2:22 p.m., police reported two thefts on Hancock Street of two antique planters and on Court Street of one cast iron plant urn.
  • At 3:57 p.m., police reported a theft on Sagamore Avenue after the caller said his cars had been rifled through and two iPod charging stations were stolen.
  • At 4:03 p.m., police reported another theft on McDonough Street after the caller said her GPS and an iPod Nano were stolen from her car.
  • At 4:37 p.m., police reported a theft on Richards Avenue of two cast iron planters.
  • At 4:43 p.m., police arrested a Portsmouth man in Market Square who was wanted as a fugitive from justice. Jason L. Hare, 38, of address unknown was wanted for two counts of failure to report being a sex offender to the police department.
  • At 4:47 p.m., police reported a theft of two propane tanks off a porch on Brewster Street.
