PORTSMOUTH, NH — Without community leaders, Portsmouth NH wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.

This submission comes from Delise West, a Portsmouth reader who nominated Karen Kulberg.

What does this community leader do?

She works full-time and started a nonprofit (roomforlove.net)

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

She gives of her valuable time, along with her volunteers to give to kids who've been through trauma i.e., a parent in jail, on drugs, and more. The child is typically living with a guardian or in foster care. Room for Love delivers a total room makeover to create a safe and inspiring space for these children who have been through so much in their short lives. It helps build their confidence, focus, and more.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Karen is someone who gives selflessly for others in need.
