PORTSMOUTH, NH — It will be all about trees the morning of May 10 in Portsmouth, as tree health will be placed to the forefront during the city's annual Arbor Day event. Portsmouth Arbor Day was scheduled to take place on Friday of this week, but was rescheduled for Friday, May 10, due to the weather. It will take place from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the community campus.

The annual event features a proclamation to observe Arbor Day, per Tree City USA requirements. Mayor Jack Blalock will read the proclamation and celebrate the occasion with the local community members, arborists and city staff. Then, a public demonstration will be held, as well as a discussion on techniques on pruning trees and improving tree health. Groups such as Cornerstone Tree Care, Northeast Shade Tree, Piscataqua Landscaping and New England Tree will celebrate the day by volunteering to care for the trees in the area.
