Portsmouth Budget Hearing Monday Night

The proposed Portsmouth general fund budget is $96,741,762, a 3.9 percent increase.

The Portsmouth City Council holds a public hearing Monday on the Fiscal Year 2015 budget, a proposal that would raise the tax rate by 29 cents.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at  7 p.m., May 12, in council chambers at City Hall.

City Manager John Bohenko's recommended operating budget is $75,737,440, which reflects a 3.24 percent increase over the current fiscal year.

The total budget is $96,741,762, including debt service, overlay, county tax and other non-operating expenses.

The Portsmouth budget schedule includes these dates:

  • Work session – water and sewer budget, 6:30 p.m., May 14.
  • Work session – budget review, 6:30 p.m., May 27.
  • FY 2015 Budget  adoption, 7 p.m., June 2.
