Portsmouth Farmers Market Celebrates Opening Day

Hundreds of Portsmouth area residents flock to City Hall to buy local fare from local farmers, bakeries and butchers.

The Portsmouth Farmers Market's opening day on Saturday saw hundreds of Portsmouth area residents turn out to once again purchase locally made and grown food, wine, baked goods and meat.

As soon as the market opened at the municipal complex parking lot in front of City Hall at 8 a.m., people eager to buy organically grown food arrived. By 10 a.m., business at the farmers market was booming as patrons discovered some of the new offering courtesy of prepared food vendors such as The Green Monkey in Portsmouth, Bucovina Cuisines in Epping and craft beer from Throwback Brewery in North Hampton.

Farmers market patrons were also able to purchase plenty of eggs, grass-fed beef and pork, goat's milk and soaps, pies, cakes, breads and hand-crafted jewelry. Some of the new farms that joined the Seacoast Growers Association sponsored farmers market included Coppal House Farm in Lee, Live Free Farm in Exeter, Saddleback Mountain Farm in Deerfield and Coombs Farm in  Fremont. There were also plenty of flowers and plants for people to buy to help green up their backyards and gardens.
