Portsmouth Police Log: Truck Strikes Utility Pole

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The following items were selected from the Portsmouth police log for the time period of Sept. 1 to Sept. 5. Arrests do not indicate guilt. The names of any minors have been omitted.

Sunday, Sept. 1 — Police removed a woman from the Hilton hotel after she was trying to use a Visa card that did not go through, the hotel did not press charges but she seemed to match the description of a woman committing frauds in downtown Portsmouth. No arrests reported today.

Monday, Sept. 2 — In Rochester, Melissa J. Small, 38, of York, Maine, is arrested on three counts of drug possession on a warrant from Portsmouth police.

Also, a trash truck struck a utility pole at the corner of Miller Avenue and South Street, snapping it in half. The driver was not injured. The Fire Department shut down the intersection to traffic. Public works was notified to place barricades at four nearby intersections.

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Woodbury Avenue. A Chevy and a CRV were towed. Police determined the lights for a left turn into BJ's were not cycling.

After a woman threatened suicide through the suicide hotline but then hung up, officials "ping" her location and take her to the hospital through voluntary admission.

Two people reported a young boy walking alone with no shoes on Lafayette Road. Police responded, and while a police officer was with the boy his mother caught up with them. The boy had reportedly decided to walk home alone from Water Country.

Tuesday, Sept. 3 — Andrew S. Pratt, 72, of Hampton Falls, was charged with negligent driving.

Wednesday, Sept. 4 — Nicholas G. Cappello, 29, of Portsmouth, was charged with stalking, breach of bail conditions and violation of a protective order. Also, two teens were reportedly fighting on Holiday Drive.

Thursday, Sept. 5 — Damien Woods, 37, of Farmington, was arrested on a criminal threatening charge.
