Portsmouth Youth Basketball Signups Are Here

The Portsmouth Police and Recreation departments, and Portsmouth Elks Lodge invites middle school students to sign up for summer basketball.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The time to sign up for Summer Youth Basketball is here. Boys and girls in the Portsmouth area who are entering sixth through eighth grade next year are invited to sign up for the program, which is being presented by the Police Department in partnership with the Recreation Department and Elks Lodge 97. The summer basketball league is open to students from Portsmouth, Greenland, Stratham, Rye, New Castle and Newington.

The three opportunities to sign up, along with organizational practices, will take place on May 27, June 11 and June 17. Assessment times for each of the organizational practice dates are: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for sixth-grade boys, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for seventh-grade boys, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for eighth grade boys, and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. for all girls. Additional team practices will take place on Sunday, June 23.

Opening night for the Portsmouth Summer Youth Basketball will be held Monday, June 24, and the season will continue through August. Games will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Connie Bean Recreation Center, located at 155 Parrot Ave., Portsmouth. Times of the games will be determined according to the number of participating teams.

The fee to sign up is $70 per player for Portsmouth residents, and $90 for non-residents. The fees will go toward supporting the program, including players' shirts, playoffs, referee fees, and first-place prizes. Fees and registrations are due by June 17.
