Retired Cop Helps Arrest Portsmouth Fugitive Of The Week

The New Hampshire Fugitive Task Force said a retired police officer helped capture a Portsmouth man featured as the NH Fugitive of the Week.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A retired police officer helped authorities arrest a Portsmouth man recently featured as the New Hampshire Fugitive of the Week. The officer spotted Jamie Pointer (pictured), 32, walking near a truck stop in Greenland Friday, according to the New Hampshire Fugitive Task Force. Portsmouth police arrested Pointer as he walked toward the C & J bus terminal on Grafton Drive.

Pointer was wanted for aggravated assault out of Portsmouth. He was featured as the NH Fugitive of the Week in June.

"We are incredibly grateful to the retired officer that spotted Mr. Pointer and called the police," U.S. Marshal David Cargill said in a statement. "Even as a retired police officer, you don’t lose those skills and will always maintain that keen sense of awareness, which definitely helped in this case."

The Fugitive of the Week program, started in 2007, is a collaboration between law enforcement authorities and local media.

Pointer was held at the Rockingham County Jail pending an arraignment. sent to the Rockingham County Jail for holding pending his initial court appearance.
