Roof Collapse in Portsmouth Causes Gas Leak

Fire officials said no one was injured.

With heavy snowfall comes more dangers than just slippery roads. A roof piled high with snow and ice can easily collapse.

And a recent collapse in Portsmouth created more problems when it caused a gas and sprinkler leak in the building. Luckily, fire officials were able to contain both and no injuries have been reported.

The roof of a vacant restaurant connected to Gary’s Beverage at 165 Deer Street collapsed around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, according to WGME.

Officials evacuated the area as a precaution as they investigated the gas leak and the cause of the collapse. While the restaurant portion of the building has been destroyed, Gary’s Beverages was unharmed.
