Shipyard Furloughs Delayed

Members of Maine Congressional delegation pass resolution to delay furloughs on same day that dozens of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers rally against sequestration.

More than 5,000 Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers who were scheduled to receive notices on Friday that they will begin 22 weeks of one-day furloughs in one month will have them delayed instead.

According to Foster's Daily Democrat, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Angus King, I-Maine, and U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud, D-Maine, got a resolution passed in Congress to delay the furloughs that were the result of sequestration. The Department of Denfense announced the furlough delay on the same day that dozens of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers and other union workers staged a rally against sequestration in Prescott Park, according to the newspaper.
