VIDEO: Worth Lot Rap Steals Show
Portsmouth Health Food Store employee Marisa Kang's rap during Monday night's City Council meeting may have been a turning point.
Marisa Kang said she had never been to a City Council meeting before she chose to deliver her rap to councilors on Monday night to abandon the Worth Lot site for a new parking garage.
The 20-year-old Oyster River High School graduate said she has worked at the Portsmouth Health Food Store for about six months in the kitchen and has always loved rap music. One night she and some of her friends were just fooling around when she came up with her Worth Lot rap in 30 minutes.
More than 40 Portsmouth residents and business owners implored the council to not consider the Worth Lot for a new parking garage on Monday night before the council voted, 5-4, to do just that. Kang's decision to deliver her public comment with a creative rap was well received by the audience and the council and may have served as a turning point in the debate.
