Over the last 24 hours, Portsmouth area residents have made several comments on Facebook and in the comment stream about the tragic accident that happened at Hampton Beach that claimed the lives of two bicyclists.
Here is what Tim Lefebvre had to say on Facebook: "I had not ridden the century in 20 years and went for a ride on Saturday from Portsmouth to York. It was impressive how many bike riders there were compared to the old days. But the coast road has no shoulder, many hills and there we riders of all abilities passing and being passed by other riders. Mix this with blind curves and tourists in cars and it gets dangerous. I think we should close the road to cars for one day a year and let bikers have it all! Cars can use rte 1 and 95, but we should be able to fee up the coast road so bikers can enjoy the view."
Here is what Bethany Fisk Heim had to say on Facebook: "People need to follow the rules and the reason as to why the car swerved is the biggest issue. Of course the fact the driver is 20 has me making huge assumptions to the cause I'm waiting to hear what the investigation shows......but if it was an issue of not following the laws and the car swerving perhaps we need to look at making the penalties more severe..."
