  • Portsmouth Schools are closed on Friday as the winter storm continues to drop heavy snow on the city.

6:45 a.m.

  • Several schools and day centers also have delayed openings or are closed because of the winter storm. Great Bay Community College at Pease International Tradeport will open at 10 a.m., but Franklin Pierce University is closed. The Community Child Care Center of Portsmouth at Pease will open at 12 noon.

  • Portsmouth Public Works Department declares snow emergency and a downtown parking ban that will go into effect on Saturday at 1 a.m.

8:15 a.m.

  • University of New Hampshire in Durham cancels classes and campus operations, according to the UNH Facebook page.

8:30 a.m.

  • Portsmouth Public Works Department extends downtown parking ban to Islington Street from Maplewood Avenue to Brewster Street. The parking ban goes into effect on Saturday at 1 a.m.

3:30 p.m.

  • Portsmouth Public Works Director Steve Parkinson announces the city's snow emergency has been terminated and the downtown parking ban that was scheduled to go into effect at 1 a.m. on Saturday has been lifted.
