Working Moms: How Does NH Rank?

The Best & Worst States for Working Moms puts NH somewhere in the middle.

The governor and the entire congressional delegation are women and mothers, but New Hampshire ranks as only the 14th "best state for working moms," according to a study by WalletHub.

The personal financial social network ranked the states on nine different metrics ahead of Mother's Day this weekend.

New Hampshire came in at seventh best for child care, but was in the middle of the pack on professional opportunities (21st) and work-life balance (29th).

Working Moms in New Hampshire

  • 12th – Day Care Quality
  • 34th – Child Care Costs
  • 19th – Access to Pediatric Services
  • 6th – Public School Quality
  • 32nd – Gender Pay Gap
  • 17th – Ratio of Female to Male Executives
  • 20th – Parental Leave Policy
  • 19th – Length of the Average Woman’s Workday
  • 42nd – Average Commute Time
Vermont ranked third overall, while Maine ranked fourth and Massachusetts ranked ninth.

The WalletHub report's introduction:

"While women now comprise roughly half of the American workforce, they make about two-thirds as much as men and have far less upward mobility, as evidenced by the fact that less than 5% of Fortune 500 companies have female chief executives. Even the new crop of high-profile female CEOs seems to be drastically underpaid relative to their peers."
