Chris Christie in NH to Help Havenstein

A possible 2016 presidential hopeful is in New Hampshire on Friday to support one of the Republicans running for governor.

New Jersey Chris Christie, in his role as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is visiting New Hampshire on Friday to support Republican Walt Havenstein for governor.

Christie, a possible presidential candidate in 2016, is scheduled to attend a Republican Governors Association finance event in Manchester around 4:15 p.m., followed by a campaign stop with Havenstein in Manchester and a private Havenstein for Governor fundraiser in Atkinson on Friday night.

Havenstein, of Alton, and Andrew Hemingway, of Bristol, are two of the well-known candidates for the Republican nomination for governor. Also on the ballot: Jonathan Smolin of Alton and Daniel J. Greene of Pittsfield.

Democrats held a conference call ahead of the Christie visit featuring New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley and New Jersey Democratic Party Chairman John Currie.

Buckley said Christie and Havenstein have a lot in common.

"Under Christie's watch; New Jersey's economy has performed miserably and now leads the nation in the percentage of homes in foreclosure, while during Havenstein's tenure as CEO, SAIC's stock lost 32 percent of its value as the company experienced declining sales and profit."

Havenstein is better known in New Hampshire as the former executive at BAE Systems. Asked by a reporter if Buckley had anything to say about Havenstein's tenure at BAE, Buckley said he did not.
