2. HOOVER NAMED CHAIRMAN OF BUDCOM: According to several sources, Dane Hoover was named chairman of the Salem Budget Committee last night. He joins Bernard Campbell Jr. (School Board) and Everett McBride Jr. (Selectmen) on the list of chairmen named this week.
3. BRUINS FANS... DON'T LOOK: It was a terrible night for those of you who are Bruins fans. In a bid for first place in the division, the team collapsed in the final 8 minutes of the third period, eventually giving up a goal in the final 10 seconds and losing in a shootout 6-5.

Later in the evening, the Pittsburgh Penguins swooped in on what had been called a done deal between Boston and Calgary for veteran superstar Jarome Iginla.
4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On March 28, 1814, the funeral of Guillotin, the inventor and namesake of the infamous execution device, takes place outside of Paris, France. Guillotin had what he felt were the purest motives for inventing the guillotine and was deeply distressed at how his reputation had become besmirched in the aftermath. Guillotin had bestowed the deadly contraption on the French as a "philanthropic gesture" for the systematic criminal justice reform that was taking place in 1789. The machine was intended to show the intellectual and social progress of the Revolution; by killing aristocrats and journeymen the same way, equality in death was ensured.

5. GRADUATION DATE SET: From the School District website: At its March 27 meeting, the Salem School Board set the date for the Salem High School graduation. The Class of 2013 will graduate on Friday, June 14, at 6 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, the graduation ceremony will be postponed and held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, rain or shine. More graduation information and senior week activities will be announced by Salem High School officials later this spring.
