Five Things: Back to School

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: Today and tonight will be mostly cloudy with a high of 41 by day and a low of 31 by night.

2. SENATE COMMITTEE TO VOTE ON CASINO RECOMMENDATION: A vote this Tuesday from the Senate Ways & Means Committee will come on whether to recommend Senate Bill 152, which is related to expanded gambling in the state.

3. SELECTMEN MEET: A short meeting agenda will include a visit from state Sen. Chuck Morse to discuss the expanded gambling bill. The Selectmen will also asign checking of polls for next week's election and ballot voting.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On March 4, 1861, Abraham Lincoln becomes the 16th president of the United States. In his inauguration speech Lincoln extended an olive branch to the South, but also made it clear that he intended to enforce federal laws in the states that seceded.

5. BACK TO SCHOOL: Salem students return to school this week after last week's February break.
