Five Things: Salem Braces for Blizzard

The weather will not stop a Chamber of Commerce event from taking place this morning.

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: We don't need to tell you that today is quite the powder day. Snow showers are expected to kick off around 8 a.m. with precipitation getting increasingly worse. By tonight, expect a full blizzard with high winds. Temperatures will reach a high of 34 by day and a low of 19 tonight.

2. STORM HUB: We are offering you Salem-related updates all day courtesy of our Windham Storm Center.

3. CASINO, I-93 TALK: State Sens. Jim Rausch (R-Derry) and Chuck Morse (R-Salem) will host an event with the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce this morning at Atkinson Country Club. The meeting will take place at 7:45 a.m. and involve a discussion of the state budget, I-93 and the expanded gaming bill.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On February 8, 1985, Sir William Lyons, the founder of the British luxury automaker Jaguar, dies at the age of 84 in Warwickshire, England.

5. CONVENIENTMD OPEN FOR REGULAR HOURS DURING STORM: For Salem residents near the border seeking medical attention – the new urgent care provider off Exit 3 on I-93 in Windham will remain open during the blizzard. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
