Man Arrested in $210K Safe Theft

Michael Muecci, 31, of Salem, was apprehended after an accident and pursuit in Lowell, according to Salem Police.

Salem Police said that a man wanted in connection with the theft of a safe and $210,000 a week ago was arrested April 25 in Lowell, Mass.

Michael Muecci, 31, of Salem, was apprehended after an accident and pursuit in Lowell, according to Salem Police. 

Muecci, who was considered armed and dangerous, faces numerous charges in Lowell, including a breaking and entering warrant from 2011. He is also being held as a fugitive from justice from the state of New Hampshire on the Salem charges.

Police were searching for Muecci since the heist April 14, as part of the investigation into the theft of 

He was identified as one of three men in the robbery. Shawn Russell, 30, of Methuen, Mass., was apprehended in Methuen and allegedly in possession of $40,000 in cash and 42 grams of heroin.

The safe was stolen from a residence at 24 Main St. in Salem. A witness told police that a dark-colored Kia fled the area after crashing into a parked vehicle, and that three men seen in the area were in the area the night before.
