Massachusetts Man Dies After Motorcycle Crash In Salem

Austin Willettee, 24, of Methuen was riding on a Harley-Davidson when he was struck by a vehicle involved in a crash on Main Street Tuesday.

SALEM, NH — A man from Massachusetts died after a three-vehicle crash on Main Street in Salem Tuesday.

Austin Willette, 24, of Methuen, MA, was medflighted to a Boston hospital after a crash around 6:30 p.m.

Officers were sent to a report of a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle where the rider was unresponsive. An investigation by the Salem Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit found a 2018 Jeep driven by Sara Grams, 30, of Haverhill, MA, was traveling east when she crossed over the double yellow line into the westbound lane of traffic, Capt. Jason Smith of the Salem Police Department said. Grams then crashed into a 2012 Toyota being driven by Lawrence Goddard, 65, of Salem.

“This collision forced the Toyota off the roadway as the Jeep remained sideways in westbound lane and struck a 2000 Harley Davidson, operated by Willette, who had been travelling westbound behind the Toyota,” Smith said on Facebook.

Willette was taken by Salem fire and rescue teams to Lawrence General Hospital and then, to Boston. He died on Wednesday, Smith said.

Route 97 was closed for several hours during the investigation, he said.
